BÉLA BARTÓK’S ONLY OPERA MADE THE HUNGARIAN COMPOSER A CLASSIC OF THE MUSICAL THEATER OF THE 20TH CENTURY. THE EPITOME OF MODERNIST OPERATIC FORM AND A MANIFESTO OF MUSICAL EXPRESSIONISM, “BLUEBEARD’S CASTLE” IS STRUCTURED AS A ONE-ACT THRILLER.
THE PARTICIPANTS IN THE PSYCHOLOGICAL DRAMA ARE THE DUKE, HIS YOUNG WIFE JUDITH AND THE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, WHICH FROM THE FIRST TO THE LAST NOTE CARRIES ON A TENSE DIALOGUE WITH THE TWO SINGERS ON STAGE. AUGMENTED BODY, ALTERED MIND IS A COLLABORATIVE, INTERACTIVE EXHIBITION WEAVING A BRAIN-COMPUTER INTERFACE WITH AN AUDIOVISUAL ENVIRONMENT. THE SHOW CELEBRATES DIFFERENT COGNITIVE ABILITIES USED FOR CREATIVE PROBLEM-SOLVING. AUGMENTED BODY, ALTERED MIND EXPLORES THE POTENTIAL TO COLLECTIVELY RESHAPE THE WORLD TOWARDS A MORE DIVERSE AND SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.
DELVING INTO THE CLIMATE CHALLENGE AND TECH-GROWTH NARRATIVES, AUGMENTED BODY, ALTERED MIND EXAMINES CORRELATIONS BETWEEN THE NATURAL WORLD, NEUROLOGY, PHILOSOPHY, AND NEURODIVERGENCE (WHICH REFERENCES VARIATIONS IN THE HUMAN BRAIN AND COGNITION). IMMERSED IN A PROJECTED ENVIRONMENT AND MULTI-CHANNEL SOUNDSCAPE, VISITORS ARE INVITED TO CO-CREATE THE ARTWORK IN REAL TIME BY WEARING A BRAIN-SENSING HEADSET THAT DETECTS ELECTRIC SIGNALS GENERATED BY DIFFERENT BRAIN WAVES. THE PROJECT WAS DEVELOPING A GLSL SHADER (IN TOUCHDESIGNER SOFTWARE) THAT SIMULATES SUCH A CHEMICAL REACTION AS THE SAFMAN - TAYLOR INSTABILITY ALSO CALLED VISCOUS FINGER. THIS IS A FRACTAL STRUCTURE GENERATED BY CONTACT WITH VISCOUS LIQUIDS OF DIFFERENT DENSITY



THE COMPUTER GENERATING A SHADER IN REAL TIME IS CONNECTED TO A JACQUARD MACHINE, AND TRANSMITS A RANDOM FRAME FROM 9 FRACTIONS OF THE SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT, AND THE MACHINE, IN TURN, INTERPRETS THE INCOMING FILE CONVERTING THE SUBTLE STRUCTURES OF OUR DIGITAL REALITY INTO INTIMATE, TACTILE MATERIALS. IT IS AN EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS, AMONG WHICH THERE IS ONE BY HANS HOLBEIN THE YOUNGER "THE DEAD CHRIST", THAT IS A REFLEXION ON DOSTOEVSKIY'S RELIGIOUS DEVOUTNESS. THE WRITER CONTRASTS THE FAITH IN GOD-MAN-CHRIST WITH THE LOVE FOR CHRIST-MAN. IT IS THE MAN WHO IS IN THE IMAGE OF GOD. THE TEXTS THAT ARE HEARD WITHIN THE FILM ARE THE QUOTATIONS CITING THE CHARACTERS FROM THE WORKS OF THE CLASSIC, SUCH AS "THE IDIOT", "THE ADOLESCENT", AS WELL AS THE MONOGRAPH BY K. V. "DEFINITION" WAS PERFORMED ONCE IN OCTOBER 2020 AT THE NEW STAGE OF ALEXANDRINSKY THEATRE IN SAINT-PETERSBURG.



THIS WORKS EXPLORES CONCEPT OF SOLIDARITY TROUGH SERIES OF VIDEO STORIES THAT BUILD A NARRATIVE AROUND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN THE MIDDLE EAST.

THIS WORK IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT FOR ME IN TERMS OF UNDERSTANDING AND CRITICALLY ANALYZING RUSSIA'S PARTICIPATION AS ONE OF THE POLITICAL POWERS IN THE REGION. FEMINIST NARRATIVE AND WOMEN'S RIGHTS BECAME GENERAL ISSUE WE FOCUSED DURING RESEARCH.

THE INSTALLATION IS A CIRCULAR OBJECT TOWERING ABOVE THE VIEWER, FLOATING IN WEIGHTLESSNESS, WITH TEXTURED LIKE A STONE.
IN THE CENTER OF THE CIRCLE IS A LIVING DIGITAL SUBSTANCE, A SIMULATION OF THE POSSIBLE MOVEMENT OF A STONE INSIDE ITSELF. IN IT, THERE ARE VARIOUS GRIMACES THAT BURST OUT IN AN UNFINISHED SCREAM. THE GRAPHICS AND THE SOUND ARE INTERCONNECTED IN A GENERATIVE MOVEMENT: IT HAS NO END OR BEGINNING, AND ACTS ACCORDING TO A MACHINE CODE, SHOWING A NEW IMAGE AND MAKING A NEW SOUND EVERY TIME, UNREPEATED.


THUS, THE INSTALLATION IS A KIND OF LIFE, AN INTELLECT THAT HAS SOME CONNECTION WITH “THE HUMAN”, BUT MUTATES THIS CONCEPT, BECOMING SOMETHING OTHER. THIS STRONG EMOTIONAL CALL EMPHASIZES THE DESPAIR OF THE STATUS QUO. THROUGH IT, WE GET IN TOUCH WITH TRANSMUTATIONS: THE POSSIBILITY OF JOINT ACTION, OF UNITY, OF HEARING AND BEING HEARD. THE INSTALLATION IS A CAPTURE OF THE MOMENT, A CRY OF DESPAIR - AND CALL FOR THE UNITY OF THE MOVING AND THE PETRIFIED, A CALL TO CONSIDER THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE TWO. IN IT, ONE CAN HEAR THE GRIEF AND DESPERATE HOPE FOR FORTHCOMING CRITICAL CHANGES AT THE ROOT OF THE POLITICAL AND AESTHETIC OPTICS OF THE PUBLIC EYE.

FROM MARC SHAGALL TO THE PRESENT DAY, THE CREATIONS AND STORIES OF ARTISTS, THEIR TRUE TRANSITIONAL PEOPLE, HAVE OPENED UP HIDDEN CONFLICTS BETWEEN GENERATIONS, NATIONS AND COUNTRIES. THIS IS AN ATTEMPT TO RESTORE THE EVENTS CONNECTED WITH THE EXECUTION OF NICHOLAS II AND HIS FAMILY IN YEKATERINBURG IN JULY 1918, BASED ONLY ON IRREFUTABLE FACTS. THE PERFORMANCE IS BASED ON THOUSANDS OF HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS COLLECTED FROM THE LARGEST RUSSIAN ARCHIVES AND MUSEUMS OVER THE COURSE OF ALMOST TWO YEARS. THE MULTIMEDIA COMPONENT IS IMPLEMENTED USING SAMSUNG GEAR VR VIRTUAL REALITY GLASSES AND SENNHEISER HD 100 HEADPHONES.

THE SEQUENCE OF EMOTIONS AND COLORS IS BASED ON THE THOUGHTS OF VASILY KANDINSKY, THE THEORY OF THE MASLOW PYRAMID, THE INTEGRAL PHILOSOPHY OF KEN WILBER AND THE INDIAN THEORY OF POETIC MOODS (NATYASHASTRA). MALEVICH AND KANDINSKY DO NOT STOP WHERE THE CREATIVE MOVEMENT USUALLY STOPS. THEY GO BEYOND THE SO-CALLED "ENLIGHTENMENT" - AND GO FURTHER, OPENING A NEW HISTORY OF RELATIONSHIPS ALREADY BEYOND THE HUMAN PERCEPTION.
